Christ dwells in our hearts by faith!
As Pastor Juanita Gibbs has taught us we are a spiritual being that possess a soul and live in a body. For this blog, I am going to focus on the soul aspect. (1 Thess 5:23)
My soul (mind, will, and emotions) is also referred to as our inner man in scripture. This soulish part of my being needs strengthening by the Lord to transform.
My spirit was reborn when I invited Jesus to come and live within my spirit. However, at salvation my soul wasn’t touched in the rebirth. My inner man of my soul takes work and time to change.
It is in this way that Christ will be able to dwell with in our hearts by the faith that opened the door to invite him in. Its that faith that begins to root us and ground us in His love.
As, he has taken up residency within us as we work on strengthening our inner man to understand and take in the things of the spirit.
My old nature and new reborn nature are contrary to one another and will remain in emnity against each other.
That is a reason the inner man need strength for the battle to overcome the sin nature and turn more toward how God initially wanted man to be on the earth in relationship with God.
God wants that close personal relationship with Him, he wanted that from the beginning until deception entered the Garden and that deep connection was lost until Jesus came to restore it.
To know the depth and length of His love to give His only son for our sins so that we may know the fullness of who God really is, the author and finisher of our faith is the lengths that God will go to, to be rooted and grounded in His love, know His fullness, and strengthen our inner man of our soul.
For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God.
